GREENWINE 2
Carbon footprint reduction in wineries
August 2022 - April 2023
SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVES
The strategic objective of this project is to reduce the carbon footprint in winemaking by reducing energy consumption, optimizing renewable production and implementing H2 as energy storage.
This project shares a strategic objective with phase 1, focused on the harvest, and is expected to be completed with a final phase focused on wine distribution.
The specific objectives pursued in this Greenwine Phase 2 are:
1. To study alternatives for incorporating renewable energies in the winemaking production process, replacing the current electricity of non-renewable origin.
2. To design and propose applications adapted to the processes of Bodega Sumarroca, based on renewable H2, taking advantage of surpluses from the existing solar generation plant.
3. Complement the digital monitoring and control platform with the activities and processes associated with wine production.
4. Improve the sustainability of the Sumarroca winery by optimizing processes and reducing energy consumption.
5. Disseminate the project to integrate and motivate other wineries to work towards the decarbonization of the wine sector.
FOUNDATION ROLE
Fundación Hidrógeno Aragón will study alternatives for H2 production from renewable sources and the subsequent electrification of H2 or use as a fuel to replace industrial gases. Specifically, we will analyze the technical and economic feasibility for the implementation of an electrolyzer, powered by renewable energy surpluses, and a fuel cell for electricity supply.
