The Government of Aragon and the Aragon Hydrogen Foundation, attended the Annual General Assembly of Hyer (Hydrogen Fuel Cells and Electro-mobility in European Regions) held on 26 of May in Aberdeen, Scotland. Hyer is the Association of Regions and Municipalities Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and Electromobility in which the Government of Aragon is a founding partner since 2008.
The Association brings together 36 regions across Europe representing a population of 200 million and an inner product gross of 363 billion euros.
In the Assembly the nomination of new board, consisting of representatives of the cities of Aberdeen (Scotland), Akershus (Denmark) and the regions of Lombardy (Italy), Poitou Charentes (France), Skane (Sweden), was presented and Aragon (Spain).
In the case of Aragon, Carlos Javier Navarro Espada, General Director of Industry and SME of the Government of Aragon, has flaunting the Vice President of the Board and this year met the maximum period to exercise that capacity. After a short time as an observer it has again been appointed to the board unanimously. Hyer initially was focused only on hydrogen and fuel cells as an energy carrier and at the suggestion of the European Commission extended to all Electromobility.
For Aragon, belonging to Hyer and join the “Board” means occupy a privileged place among the regions that cooperate to lead the energetic shift towards sustainable transport and a low carbon economy.
In addition, Navarro and the Managing Director of the Aragon Hydrogen Foundation, Fernando Palacin, have used their assistance to the Assembly of Hyer, for a meeting in Edinburgh with the Scottish Association for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells ( Scottish Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Association, SHFCA), with the aim of establishing the foundations of a close partnership between them and the entities that constitute them.
The resulting synergy will certainly boost the internationalization of the Aragonese companies, and this is a point of great value for increasing the competitiveness of the industrial sector, new technologies based on hydrogen and fuel cells, which will affect so decisive in energy efficiency, renewable energies, electricity storage and the most advanced developments in the field of automotive at medium and long term. All these sectors are central to the Aragonese economy. Another objective of this collaboration is to promote the implementation of R + D + i.
