4AIRCRAFT
Air Carbon Recycling for Aviation Fuel Technology
May 2021 - April 2025
SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVES
4AirCRAFT aims to develop sustainable and clean synthetic fuel for aviation from direct CO2 conversion. This project, consistent with the circular economy principle, aims to address the problem of greenhouse gas emissions produced by fossil fuels in the aviation sector, reducing its impact on the environment. This project also addresses the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations (UN), in which is performed Goal 13 “Climate Action”, Goal 7 “Renewable energy”, and Goal 9 “Innovation and infrastructure”.
4AirCRAFT is focused on the development and validation of a cascade reactor, involving a new generation of catalyst, for the synthesis of more sustainable liquid fuels. This project will address the challenge of combining three main reactions in one single reactor with the aim of direct CO2 conversion whereas reducing energy consumption.
The specific objectives would be:
• Development of next generation catalysts.
• Optimization of catalytic properties by the development of novel porous catalyst carriers selective catalysts stabilization.
• Proof of concept testing of advanced 4airCRAFT cascade reactor, determination of its environmental impact and cost.
FOUNDATION ROLE
The Foundation for the Development of New Hydrogen Technologies in Aragón is the coordinator of the project and participates actively in most of the work packages, leading the proof-of concept validation and environmental impact assessment. FHa also coordinates the communication and dissemination activities and the exploitation of results.
