HyCoolER- Hydrogen Cooling Equipment for Refuelling stations
June 2024 - November 2026

SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVES

The project will develop a compact and efficient pre-cooling system, specifically designed for hydrogen refuelling stations (HRS), with an application oriented towards heavy vehicles, which currently do not have a standard operating protocol. The expected impact is to validate on a test bench a component capable of being directly integrated, highly versatile, easy to install, modular and cost-competitive to meet the hydrogen refuelling station deployment targets set out in the Hydrogen Roadmap.

FOUNDATION ROLE

FHa will design and develop a test bench capable of testing the equipment to confirm the correct operation of the component, its integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements under different environmental conditions. This test bench will be implemented in FHa's facilities and shall have capabilities to reproduce the filling of a heavy vehicle tank at 350 bar, by controlling the filling flow rate. It shall also allow monitoring of all test conditions to compare the results with numerical simulations and with the data provided in the regulations.
