SINNOGENES: Aragon at the heart of European energy innovation

Aragon Hydrogen Foundation belongs to the Huesca demonstrator team in a project that is revolutionising industrial energy management.

Some projects are born with the aim of transforming realities. SINNOGENES (Storage INNOvations for Green ENErgy Systems) is one of them: six demonstrators in five European countries working to change the way industry manages, stores and consumes renewable energy.

Walqa Technology Park: the Aragonese demonstrator

Aragon Hydrogen Foundation leads Demo #3, located in the Walqa Technology Park in Huesca. Our focus: to develop advanced energy storage solutions for industrial microgrids that enable companies to maximise their renewable self-consumption, better manage their peak demand and achieve greater energy autonomy.

Six demonstrators, a map of change

🇵🇹 Demo #1 – Maia, Portugal: Multi-technology industrial microgrid with vanadium redox flow batteries and innovative thermal storage.

🇪🇸 Demo #2 – Soria, Spain: Smart integration at CEDER-CIEMAT, connecting electrical systems with district heating using geothermal energy and rapid response prototypes.

🇪🇸 Demo #3 – Huesca, Spain: Our demonstrator at the Walqa Technology Park, focused on energy storage for technology parks.

🇩🇪 Demo #4 – Germany: Decarbonisation of processing plants through smart management of solar thermal energy and heat pumps.

🇬🇷 Demo #5 – Ikaria, Greece: Optimisation of a hybrid hydroelectric plant with advanced digital tools (digital twin and load prediction).

🇨🇭 Demo #6 – Geneva, Switzerland: Public transport with green hydrogen powered by artificial intelligence.

The e-handbook: everything you need to know

If you want to understand how each demonstrator works, what technologies we are using and why this matters for Europe’s energy future, we have just published ‘The Green Change: SINNOGENES Demos in Action’.

It is not an indecipherable technical manual. It is a clear, visual document so that anyone interested in the energy transition can understand what is happening in every corner of Europe where SINNOGENES is making its mark.

Why this matters

The energy transition will not happen on its own. It is happening because there are projects like SINNOGENES, with teams working in six different countries, testing technologies and solving real problems.

And it is also happening because Aragón decided that energy innovation was part of its DNA. That is why we have a demonstrator in Walqa. That is why we are working alongside Portugal, Germany, Greece and Switzerland on this European project.
