Hydrogen purity: a common goal to boost the energy transition

At Fundación Hidrógeno Aragón, we closely follow the advancements and critical debates in the hydrogen sector. Recently, an interesting article by Stargate Hydrogen on their blog has highlighted the vital importance of hydrogen purity to ensure its efficiency and viability in the various applications that will underpin the green hydrogen economy.

The article, while focusing on the challenges and solutions related to PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) electrolysis, addresses a cross-cutting and fundamental issue for any hydrogen production technology: the need to guarantee optimal gas quality. Hydrogen purity is a critical factor not only for the performance of fuel cells in mobility or power generation applications but also for its use as a raw material in sensitive industrial processes.

In this context, Fundación Hidrógeno Aragón is actively involved in cutting-edge projects that precisely address these challenges. A clear example of our collaboration and commitment is the ENDURE project, in which we are directly partnered with Stargate Hydrogen. Through initiatives like ENDURE, we work hand in hand with leading technology partners to research and develop robust solutions that ensure the production of high-quality hydrogen, facilitating its integration into sustainable value chains. This synergy is fundamental to overcoming the technical and economic challenges associated with hydrogen purity.

Our expertise extends particularly to the optimization of alkaline electrolysis (AEL) technology, one of the most promising avenues for large-scale green hydrogen production. At Fundación Hidrógeno Aragón, we dedicate significant efforts to the continuous improvement of the components and processes of alkaline electrolyzers. This includes research into new materials, the design of more efficient systems, and the implementation of techniques that ensure the production of hydrogen of the highest purity, adapted to the diverse needs of industry and transport.

From Fundación Hidrógeno Aragón, we are committed to promoting and developing hydrogen technologies that are not only efficient but also comply with the highest quality standards. Through projects like ENDURE or any other where AEL is optimized or H2 purity/quality is addressed, and other key initiatives, we continue to drive the research and development of innovative electrolysis solutions, with a particular focus on improving AEL, to build a cleaner and more sustainable energy future in Aragon and in Europe.
