The LIFE Zero EnergyMod project comes to an end, but its legacy lives on through the educational guides that explore its applicability

The innovative LIFE ZEROENERGYMOD project, funded by the European Union’s LIFE Programme, announces the publication of its implementation guides—a key resource detailing the development of its groundbreaking modular energy system.

This project has achieved a comprehensive and sustainable solution designed to meet energy needs in remote and off-grid environments.

At the heart of LIFE ZEROENERGYMOD lies the synergy between two main modules: the PASSIVMOD, a habitable unit built to the Passivhaus standard, and the ENERMOD, the energy module that powers it. The PASSIVMOD is designed for exceptionally low energy consumption, reducing demand by 75% to 85% through principles such as continuous insulation, an airtight envelope, high-quality windows, and a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery. It is a modular, demountable, and transportable construction based on 20-foot containers, adaptable for various uses such as dormitories, offices, or even temporary solutions for NGOs, schools, or hospitals.

The benefits of the LIFE ZEROENERGYMOD solution are clear:

  • Significant energy savings and reduced utility bills
  • Superior comfort with consistent temperature and improved air quality
  • Environmental sustainability with zero emissions during use and operation, contributing to a cleaner future
  • High-quality, durable, and comfortable construction
  • Full autonomy from the electrical grid

The project has concluded thanks to the teamwork of our partners: ARPA Equipos Móviles de CampañaCentro Universitario de Defensa Zaragoza, and the architecture studio B+haus. Together, we have developed educational guides that demonstrate the feasibility of implementing the Passivhaus standard and hydrogen technologies in modular constructions. We invite you to visit the project’s official website to explore these guides in detail, learn more about the LIFE ZEROENERGYMOD project, and discover how we are transforming the future of energy in challenging environments.
