Renewable hydrogen consumption would increase by 2030.
On 18 May, the EC presented its REPowerEU Plan in response to the natural gas supply challenges and global energy market disruption caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, disclosing further details on the implementation of the Hydrogen Accelerator.
An in-depth analysis will be carried out by HE in the upcoming weeks and results will be shared soon.
According to EU COM own estimates the measures included in the Hydrogen Accelerator would increase renewable hydrogen consumption to 16.2 Mt by 2030, with over 75% grey hydrogen and around 30% of EU primary steel production expected to be decarbonised on the basis of renewable hydrogen by 2030.
