Aragon, protagonist at the European Hydrogen Week in Brussels

The Brussels Exhibition Centre has hosted this week a new edition of the European Hydrogen Week. The main event related to this technology on the continent, which brings together the main exponents of the sector around a full programme, combines more than 200 presentations, exhibitions of electrolysers, hydrogen fuel cells, trucks, buses and cars with meetings of all kinds in which to establish alliances and learn about the latest and most innovative projects.

As every year we have participated with our own stand, where we have exhibited the strength of the 90 companies and organisations that currently make up our Board of Trustees, as well as our main projects. A space in which we have offered a networking area, H2Cube, designed to facilitate dialogue around innovation and the future of this energy vector.

Our Vice-President and General Director of Industrial Promotion and Innovation of the Government of Aragon, Mar Paños, was present at the space, together with our Managing Director, José María Santa Bárbara. Both attended the ‘Regional Pillar’ meeting, which offered the opportunity to connect with potential partners for projects. ‘Being here allows us to learn about the current state of other regions in terms of hydrogen and its applications. It is essential to coordinate efforts between regions to create a network of production and refuelling points that is accessible and useful for citizens and companies,’ he said.

Our Managing Director also stressed the importance of exchanging ideas and being aligned in the same direction. ‘Collaboration with other professionals and key entities in the sector is essential to move together towards a more sustainable future,’ he said.

With more than 8,000 attendees and as many square metres of exhibition space, the European Hydrogen Week included a good number of parallel activities in which members of our technical team have also participated. In this sense, the Foundation has participated in a workshop within the HYPOP project, which supports the deployment of hydrogen in Europe; has made an oral presentation of the CANDHy project, of which it is coordinator and which is focused on testing the hydrogen tolerance of metallic materials other than steel; has presented the Hydrogen Master Plan in Aragon 2021-2025; and has told the experience gained in the Hydrogen Valleys and the Ebro Hydrogen Corridor, highlighting the cooperation between regions and strategies to remove obstacles in terms of procedures. Through these actions, Aragon has received external recognition from the sector and has positioned itself as an excellent asset for attracting investment and transmitting its knowledge in the field of energy.

In addition, the Foundation has been selected as the winning story in the ‘Skills’ category for the publication Hydrogen Frontiers, edited by Hydrogen Europe Research. This distinction highlights the valuable work carried out by the Foundation from its didactic room ‘H2 LAB’, where knowledge is stimulated and scientific professions around hydrogen are promoted among young people.

European Hydrogen Week is promoted by the European Commission, Hydrogen Europe (the European association whose more than 400 members represent the interests of industry, territories and their stakeholders) and the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, a public-private partnership that supports research and innovation activities related to hydrogen technologies in Europe.
