ELYntegration’s Kick off meeting has taken place in the facilities of Fundación para el Desarrollo de las Nuevas Tecnologías del Hidrógeno en Aragón (FHA, coordinator) at Walqa Technology Park (Huesca, Spain). This meeting had as objective setting the project in motion in an official manner with all the beneficiaries attending and sharing a common project vision, marking the working lines for the next months. Besides, during the meeting, the beneficiaries have also visited FHA’s facilities, showing the alkaline electrolysis workshop where the final demonstration will take place.
The strategic goal of the ELYntegration Project is the design and engineering of a robust, flexible, efficient and cost-competitive single stack Multimegawatt High Pressure Alkaline Water Electrolysis of 4,5 Tons of hydrogen per day capable to provide cutting-edge operational capabilities under highly dynamic power supplies expected in the frame of generation/ transmission/ distribution scenarios integrating high renewable energies (RE) shares.
The design will be based on the development and tests on different scales, from micropilot to pilot and the final step will include the development and demonstration of a 250kW pressurised alkaline electrolyser as industrial prototype, including developments at stack level, balance of plant, and communication systems. The final testing period of the industrial prototype will be carried out at FHA facilities.
Thanks to the identification of end user requirements and critical operation parameters in the early phase of the project, it is expected that the systems to be developed in ELYntegration will pave the way towards the implementation and the commercial deployment of the 4.5 T H2/day HP AWE technology in the frame of large scale demonstration projects which shall be the next step after the conclusion of ELYntegration.
The project’s consortium is formed by Fundación para el Desarrollo de las Nuevas Tecnologías del Hidrógeno en Aragón (FHA, Spain, as coordinator), Industrie Haute Tecnhonogie SA (IHT, Switzerland), Vlaamse Instelling Voor Technologisch Onderzoek (VITO, Belgium), Fraunhofer Gesellschaft Zur Forderung Der Angewandten Forschung(Fraunhofer IFAM, Germany), Instrumentación y Componentes SA (INYCOM, Spain) ant Rheinisch-Westfaelische Technische Hochschule (IAEW-RWTH Aachen, Germany)
ELYntegration project will have a duration of 3 years and its total cost is 3.301.391€, being the EU contribution 1.861.309€. The project has received funding from the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking under grant agreement No 671458. This Joint Undertaking receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and Spain, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland.
